Surprise! That cool new space rover we’ve seen teased in several deep dives from the Starfield developers is finally here, arriving today in the Xbox and Windows PC space exploration RPG in a free DLC update. Its imminent arrival was announced at the Gamescom 2024 Opening Night Live show, and the update receives a special trailer showcasing the rover and its capabilities.
You can watch this trailer here or embed it below. It shows that the rover is officially called REV-8 and shows off its rugged all-terrain design, top speed and ability to propel a rocket upwards to gain additional height to jump or reach parts of the environment that would otherwise be inaccessible. It even features a Gauss cannon of sorts fixed to the top, giving players the ability to fight off hostile alien fauna, area bandits, and other threats.
Notably, the end of the trailer sneaks into the official release date of Starfield’s highly anticipated Shattered Space DLC, which hasn’t been revealed so far. The expansion will be released in just over a month, on September 30, 2024, and like Starfield itself, it will be available on Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. However, unlike the basic Starfield, you may not be able to access it through Xbox Game Pass and will have to purchase it. unless you purchased the Premium Edition.
While Starfield focuses on exploring worlds throughout the game, Shattered Space will focus on a deeper adventure on the planet Va’ruun’kai. Few explicit main points about the gameplay and narrative are known at this time, but we do know. that the expansion will focus on the enigmatic interstellar government space Va’ruun and will feature new planets, enemies, bosses, weapons, armor and more.
It’s exciting to know that Shattered Space is so close, and since one of my biggest issues with Starfield is its lack of depth, I can’t wait to revel in a DLC that delves into a new component of the universe. And hey, At the very least, Shattered Space will give me a chance to make smart use of the REV-8.
Speaking of the REV-8, it’s great to see Starfield finally get a space vehicle. Players have been asking for one since the game’s release in 2023, as the game’s open-world areas are quite large and open (and, you know, having a rover is vital to the space exploration vibe). If the rover is anything like Starfield’s area shipments, you may be able to customize it in depth as well, although we may not know for sure until the REV-8 arrives later. “Tonight”. To get yours, Bethesda says you just want to talk to a technician at the dispatch facility in one of the major Starfield cities.
The new DLC for Starfield’s REV-8 space rover is available and will soon be available on Xbox and Windows PC, while its Shattered Space expansion will arrive next month, September 30, 2024. Its price has not yet been announced, that’s all. Players who own Starfield Premium Edition or purchase the Premium Edition upgrade will be able to access it.
The Starfield Premium Edition costs $100 and includes the base game, as well as the Shattered Space Story expansion (when released), a Constellation skin pack, and a Starfield virtual art eBook and its official soundtrack.
