Work on Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover Tamil Nadu plant to begin from September

Tata Motors Ltd is expected to break ground for a 9,000 crore production plant for Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) until September, which will be fully operational until late 2025 or early 2026, Business Standard reported, citing unnamed sources. he added that it would be the first time that a premium vehicle is made entirely in India, rather than simply assembled.

The company, in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu state government, has already zeroed in on over 400 acres of land near Panapakkam in Ranipet district, the credit being proximity to Chennai and Ennore ports.

JLR will produce electric cars at the factory and Tata Motors will manufacture a wider diversity of cars, adding hybrids at the same factory, according to a report by the Times of India.

Currently, JLR’s Pune plant is already assembling Knocked Down Kits (CKD) of the Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Sport, Evoque, Jaguar F-PACE and Land Rover Discovery Sport.

It is also very likely that Tata Motors will use the sourcing ecosystem of Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) and Renault Nissan Automotive India, and also use some of its own suppliers, and the State will offer the ecosystem and policies tailored to the original appliance brands (OEM) and vendors, the report reads.

The facility may also be a connecting link in the Chennai-Bengaluru 18 billion crore industrial corridor, one of India’s next five mega-industrial corridors.
