Winvic Launches Honda Auto Plant Redevelopment

The paintings to be carried out through Winvic include site-wide soil contamination investigations and the demolition of four existing major structures; a progression building, an engine factory, two automotive plants and 12 auxiliary buildings.

Work began on February 19 and is expected to be completed in January 2025.

Winvic will work with subcontractor AR Demolition and all existing foundations, foundations and slabs will be shredded and reused on site. Winvic will also manage the existing substation at the site, subcontractor PW Group.

Winvic appointed Richard Reid, a longtime worker, as assignment manager. He is Winvic’s demolition expert, but also worked on the structure of the Honda 1 car plant on the site in 1992. Winvic also hired the former Honda electrical facilities engineer, who worked at the plant for 30 years, to facilitate insulation in the event of demolition.

Ground testing will involve taking samples up to 8 meters below ground at 22 separate locations on the site, where demolition is required before testing can be carried out (e. g. where diesel and petrol were stored in the past).

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak videotaps the start of the work.

The broader infrastructure works will focus on demolition and flooring investigations, forming floors for the first seven of 11 net-zero carbon buildings that will occupy a total of 7. 2 million square feet of new retail space, for logistics, production and data center uses.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak recorded a video to celebrate the start of work with Panattoni’s control team in the UK and Winvic staff.
