The explosions rocked the outskirts of the capital of Nagorno-Karabakh early Wednesday (September 20), a day after Azerbaijani forces fired heavy artillery at Armenian positions in the separatist region that the local government said killed or wounded dozens of people.
Azerbaijan called the artillery fire an “anti-terrorist operation” and said it would continue until the separatist government of Nagorno-Karabakh was dismantled and the “illegal formations of the Armenian army” surrendered.
He said it was only targeting army installations, but extensive damage was seen on the streets of the regional capital, Stepanakert, with shop windows destroyed and cars punctured by shrapnel.
