Williams have confirmed the signing of former McLaren tester Oliver Turvey as the team’s new test and development driver for the F1 2025 season.
This occurs after Franco Colapinto left Williams to the new Alpine reasons for previously reserved this month.
Although he never took part in Formula 1, Turvey, a much-loved member of the McLaren team for 15 years between 2009 and 2024.
The British driver was highly involved in simulator work for McLaren, helping with setup work from the team’s Woking factory on F1 race weekends.
Turvey, who won an LMP2 Elegance victory, the mythical 24-hour race at Le Mans in 2014 and had a remaining one in the Electric Formula E category between 2015 and 2022, will fill a similar role at Williams in aid of Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon Race drivers.

Williams says that Turvey will play a “central role in progression systems and Williams Simulation Operations”, as well as in the progression of the new team simulator complex, which will be operational at the end of this year.
Williams’ list of motive forces has lost a previous key member this month when it was announced that Colapinto, who inspired a remaining nine races for the team in 2024, will be the Alpine Reserve motive force for F1 2025.
The agreement to take Alpine to Colarito came here after James Vowles, the director of the Williams team, promised Argentinian to locate a stall on the network for F1 2025 had already committed to align Sainz and Albon.
Vowles described a move to Alpine as Colapinto’s “best chance” of securing a full-time race seat in F1 either this year or next.
The arrival of Colapinto to Alpine has generated new doubts about the long -term race of Jack Doohan, which would have a short -term contract for F1 2025.
