NEWS. . . BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
William Gallas believes England’s new Euro 2024 hero Ollie Watkins would be the best signing for Arsenal this summer.
Mikel Arteta has focused his efforts on strengthening his defense and goalkeeping department.
David Raya has now signed a permanent contract, while the agreement with Italian foreign centre-back Riccardo Calafiori is progressing at a stable pace.
Arsenal missed out on the name last season by a very narrow margin and given that they now have arguably the most powerful defence in the Premier League, they now deserve efforts in the targeting department.
Kai Havertz’s form advanced towards the end of his first campaign at the Emirates Stadium in a false nine role, while Arteta is hopeful that Gabriel Jesus will recover from the injuries that affected his career influence.
The Gunners have been linked with strikers in recent weeks but were dealt a blow earlier this summer when Benjamin Sesko opted to remain at RB Leipzig.
For Gallas, however, Arsenal’s shortage of strikers is closer to home in the form of Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.
The Arsenal fan since childhood enjoyed his most prolific campaign in the Premier League last season and boosted his burgeoning reputation with England’s Euro 2024 semi-final winner over the Netherlands.
Gallas is confident the former Brentford star would be the ideal centre-forward to work alongside Gunners captain and leader Martin Odeegard.
“For Arsenal, I like Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins,” said Lord Ping.
“He has the speed you want as a striker and with a player like Martin Odegaard he would be magnificent, think about all the assists.
“It’s very difficult to protect against players like Ollie Watkins because he’s very intelligent with his runs, with Odegaard they would do a lot of damage. If I were at Arsenal, I would decide on him.
