CHAMPION jockey Will Buick scored a hat-trick at Kempton Park.
And possibly it would have been discovered as a potential 2000 guinea dark horse in the form of the impressive Remarkable Speech.
Buick, which spent much of the winter in Dubai, is starting to prepare as the start of the true Flat season looms Tuesday at Newmarket.
He had to be at his most productive to bring Adelaise home in the Listed Snowdrop Fillies’ Stakes for Joseph O’Brien, while Devoted Queen was winning a bit by a neck later on the card.
But he saved the best for last by generating Remarkable Speech, which is now a very productive 3-3, with a very good late burst to comfortably win a race in hot two-length conditions.
Charlie Appleby’s colt was the last to approach the final half-lap, but in the final hundred meters he defeated the hitherto unbeaten Valvano to win at the start.
It was an overall 66-1 odds for Guinea on May 4 before the race, but it came down overall to 20-1 at the higher price.
Buick smiled: “It’s very horse, I had them covered in one fell swoop.
“It was so rainy that we were reluctant to race on a proving ground.
“He’s had all his wins in all weathers, but he’ll be fine on grass as long as it’s a decent surface because he’s a smart player.
“I think he’s got some roles here, he’s very fast and he’s very talented. He’s a fast and smart mile runner to look to the future.
Appleby’s biggest hope for Guinea so far is Ancient Wisdom, who won Group 1 Futurity on heavy floor at Doncaster at the end of last season.
Buick added: “It’s other guys. The handles of the old ones are cut and can go over a mile, while this guy is much faster. I leave all the projects to Charlie. “
