In mid-2012, Nissan Infiniti’s luxury car department made a major announcement about its Q60 sports coupe. The corporation said it will no longer make the car by 2023 and beyond, cease the vehicle for the foreseeable future. This announcement also led to the Infinite P60 making our list of deceased cars in 2023.
At the time of its discontinuation, the Infiniti Q60 was a new vehicle, with the first-generation styling that was recently announced as 2017. Slashgear reviewed the 2017 Infiniti Q60, and we particularly liked the car for its sleek looks, hard engine, and interior quality. Competing with the BMW Four series, the Audi A5 Diversity and the Mercedes C-Class.
While Infiniti acknowledges the Q60’s disruption with a compromised web page for the car, no official is explaining the explanation for why the decision. The only official presenting an explanation for why it was provided to the car and driver, where an Infiniti spokesperson revealed that the Q60 was discontinued so that Infiniti can focus its attention on more popular luxury car segments such as crossovers and SUVs.
Looking at the existing Infiniti lineup, this explanation why is plausible, given that the existing corporation only sells one sedan vehicle in the United States: the Infiniti Q50.
Infiniti’s existing lineup of cars for the U. S. marketplace is composed mainly of crossovers and SUVs like the QX50, QX55, QX60, and QX80. With the aforementioned Q50 sedan being the last remaining sedan in the corporate’s lineup, Infiniti is glaringly mainly focusing its efforts on the SUV segment. That is said, a look at the sales numbers of the Infiniti Q60 throws very mildly to the credible explanation why for the company to get fired up: the Infiniti Q60 did not promote well for the company.
The most productive sales figures published through the Q60 were obtained here in 2018, when Infinity controlled to sell 8,405 series of the vehicle. Since then, however, sales numbers have been on a steady downward spiral. In 2019, sales fell to just 5,043 sets. During the pandemic years of 2020-2021, the numbers slipped even further; Achieving 2,793 and 2,729 sets, respectively. A year later, in 2022, Infinity sold only 1,846 sets of the vehicle. With Infinity on the left with unsold stock of the Q60 at the time of its discontinuation, the corporate capable of selling up to 1,681 sets of the car in 2023. In fact, so far in 2024, 52 sets of the Q60 have been sold in the United States
To put those numbers into perspective, in 2018, the peak year for the Infiniti Q60, BMW sold 31,379 series of the four series, Audi sold 25,777 series of the A5, and Mercedes sold more than 5 four,000 sets of the C-Class Sedan.
