In the nearly three decades since Princess Diana died in a tragic car accident in Paris, the details of the night she died have proven to be the source of much speculation. Born in Lorient, France on July 3, 1956, Paul was one of five boys born to his teacher and municipal worker parents. Paul was also an experienced driver, having completed at least 4 driving courses for Mercedes-Benz cars in Germany between 1988 and 1991.

In 1986, he began applying for the security service at the Ritz, owned by Mohamed Al Fayed, Dodi’s father. After the crash Mohamed Al Fayed put forth a number of theories about what happened on that fateful night, including at least sixteen specific claims about Paul himself.
Fayed alleged that Paul worked for French or British security centers as a paid informant for them, and that he was involved in a plot to assassinate Diana and Dodi. He also reported that the data made public that Paul had been drinking prior to the twist of Fate Was Wrong and was part of an effort to cover up said plot, and that samples taken from Paul’s body for testing purposes had been stolen and replaced to replace the toxicology findings of the Fate Twist investigation. Chemical investigation of samples of Paul’s blood, urine, and vitreous humor (an eye fluid that, according to Operation Paget, is considered “the most accurate and reliable sampling site”) showed the presence of alcohol in Paul’s formula at the time of his death. The average of the other tests puts him at three times the legal driving limit in France.
Less than two hours before he was asked to drive for Dodi and Diana, evidence shows that Paul fed himself two Ricard drinks (an anise aperitif) at the Ritz’s Vendôme bar; the findings of Operation Paget imply that those drinks alone wouldn’t count. his blood alcohol level, writing: “To have such a blood alcohol level at the time of the accident, Henri Paul would have had to have been fed more alcohol than two Ricards. “
The tests also revealed the presence of prescription drugs in Paul’s system, adding the SSRI fluoxetine and the tranquilizer tiapride, both of which come with warnings against use while driving or operating machinery.
