WHEELER Dealers star Ant Anstead has revealed “the one that got away” as he shared a heartfelt plea to locate his beloved first car.
The TV star said she’s been there for years and “knows she’s out there somewhere. “
Today, enthusiasts know Ant as a 6’2″ tanker and for his relationship with superstar actress Renee Zellweger.
But as he wrote for Hagerty, he reminisced about when he was a teenager and just beginning his car journey.
And the car that “put him on the path” to his love of all things road, Bridget the Dwarf.
Bridget is a 1977 MG Midget that the presenter bought when he was just 17 years old.
Ant wrote, “I’ve been for Bridget the Dwarf for about five years.
“I was 17 when I bought it and all my mates were driving hatchbacks. . . So I was the intruder, but I was the only one who had a convertible.
“I’m the cool guy, or at least I think IArray
“I’m a pretty tall guy, almost 6’3,” so I must have looked like a real fool, but buying this car put me on the right track. “
The star recalled that he first saw Bridget in a used car and bought her “without seeing her,” so he obviously felt an immediate connection.
The car also held greater importance because it was the first engine he drove with his then-girlfriend and then with his wife, Louise.
It also “continued to fall apart” and “forced him to be much more informed” as a mechanic, setting him up for his later stardom.
He explained that he launched a social media campaign in 2017 to visit Bridget and buy her back, but to no avail.
However, a DVLA report revealed that Bridget is registered with SORN, so Ant “knows she’s out there somewhere. “
Ant added, “I’m someone to remember, so if I were to buy Midget again, I’d see it as a whole new chapter.
“I don’t think it’s a coincidence that we call our cars because they’re part of the family, and I find it appealing to see how cars evolve in their owner’s brain.
“I’ve been looking for her for five years, and the worst part is that I know she’s out there, waiting for me. I hope to be with you soon, Bridget. “
It comes after former Ant co-star Mike Brewer shared his own harrowing update on the search for his stolen Ford Fiesta Mark I, which was cruelly pinched last year.
In the meantime, we’ve given Wheeler Dealers enthusiasts a sneak peek at presenter Edd China’s car collection, adding a driven-friendly sofa.
