There can’t be any car whose design has replaced less over the years than the Porsche 911. Although it has become noticeably larger, heavier, and more complex with each of its eight generations, it still has the same fundamental shape and profile. However, despite its familiarity, each generation has unique quirks and design elements that make it special. So, what is the most beautiful generation of the Porsche 911 of them all?
A knee-jerk reaction could be the original 911. Its simple and no-nonsense design is still the best today. A dossier could also be made for the 964, potentially Porsche’s most iconic exterior (and the 911 Turbo’s whaletail spoiler isn’t). nothing short of legendary). Both possible options are correct and difficult to discuss. However, my favorite is going to generate some complaints from Porsche purists: the 997.
The Porsche 911 of the 997 generation disappeared in 2004 and replaced the debatable 996 generation. Maybe it’s because the 997, the 911 of my teenage years and the one I saw in dealership showrooms, however, there’s something about its size, proportions, and style that is so trendy that I love it. It still looks new today, but it doesn’t feel as bloated or overly modern as the new 911s. It also has a rear axle that’s far enough back to balance its profile, but still feels rear. -Driven.
I also like the interior of the 997, as I think it’s the happy middle ground between modern generation and old-school analog engagement. It has vintage analog gauges, an undeniable touchscreen infotainment formula, and the ability to pair a phone, but none of the outrageously complex formulas of today’s inner beings.
Would I love a 964 or the original 911? Sure, they’re impressive cars (and they’re worth a lot more than the 997). But if I had to decide which is the best 911 design, it would be the 997. So what do you say, readers? Tell me how wrong I am and what the most charming 911 is.
