DEPTFORD TWP. – A 19-year-old Westville man faces driving while intoxicated and vehicular homicide charges for his role in a crash that killed a motorcycle passenger here last week, according to authorities.
The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday said Miguel Pichardo is being held at the Salem County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing.
Deptford Township Police on Aug. 22 responded to Tanyard Road, between Cattell Road and Brenner Avenue, around 10:08 p.m. for a crash involving a car and motorcycle.
Authorities said the motorcycle driver, 67-year-old William Stotsenberg of Deptford, was slowing to make a turn when Pichardo, driving a 2007 BMW 325i, rear-ended him. Ann Fletcher, 52, of Deptford, was a passenger on the motorcycle, and both she and Stotsenberg were ejected from the 1989 Harley Davidson in the crash.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Fletcher later died from her injuries while Stotsenberg was seriously hurt.
Deptford police arrested Pichardo at the scene for driving while intoxicated. He was charged with assault by auto in addition to the DWI and vehicular homicide charges.
Pichardo was not injured in the crash, according to authorities.
