This is the Alfa Romeo Milano, the small SUV that aims to increase the company’s sales in particular. Alfa Romeo, of course, is part of the large Stellantis group, so this car is related to the Fiat 600, the Jeep Avenger, the Peugeot 2008 and the Vauxhall Corsa. Ah, but Alfa says the Milano is a “manual” from the Italian brand, committed “to the satisfaction of the sensory faculties. “Ok, it’s fine.
Historically, Alfa has done this through physically powerful engines and characterful styling. The Milano is Alfa’s first BEV, but there will also be a hybrid edition, powered by a 1. 2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine. We may only have the front wheel model. Drive in the UK (Alfa hasn’t done that yet), but not the all-wheel-drive version.
The watchword here is differentiation. Take the same ingredients (in this case, the eCMP platform) and make something very tasty with them. Alfa’s design team, led by Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, did a smart job. The kite is 4. 1 m long, 1. 5 m tall and has a forged stance. The overhangs are short, the rear truncated in such a way that references to the Giulia TZ of the 60s are less extravagant than they seem at first glance. The “scudetto” grille is revised and available in striking “leggenda” or “progresso” versions. The Alpha phone faces are the subject of a remix. And the 3 3 headlights are full LED matrix.
The electric Milano uses, which is not usually a coincidence, a 54 kWh battery (50. 8 usable), the same one found in the Abarth 600e and the Jeep Avenger. Here it can be purchased in two variants, with an output of 154 or 238 horsepower and a single motor driving the front wheels. Alfa claims to have a 250-mile run. If TG’s Avenger experience is anything to overlook, it’ll probably be closer to 200 in the real world, although we did see 4. 1 miles per kWh from this car.
That said, Alfa Romeo is looking here for the most productive handling and functionality in its elegance. Therefore, the Milano has faster and more direct steering, lower suspension and more powerful front and rear anti-roll bars, and in a more extroverted Veloce form. , 380 mm diameter front discs with four-piston calipers, 20-inch wheels and mechanical self-locking differential. Alpha’s DNA conduction mode program reappears here: D for Dynamic, N for Herbal and that’s the setting, and A for Complex Efficiency. . Everything softens. Alfa proudly tells us that the team that developed the Giulia GTA also made the Milano. We’ll find out soon.
Inside, the project consists of creating an Alfa Romeo atmosphere based on the matrix of the group’s components. The dashboard features a double bonnet with a “telescopic” effect reminiscent of historic Alfas. At the center is a configurable 10. 25-inch virtual display. through a 10. 25-inch touchscreen, whose widgets can be designed and drag-and-drop completely bespoke. Each user can create their own homepage. The air vents here are shaped like four-leaf clover, and the Veloce edition has Sabelt sports seats and masses of red (rosso, innit). Alfa Romeo claims to have a boot capacity of 400 litres, the best in its class (at the rear of the car), while a cable organiser in the boot.
The Milano also promises Level 2 automated driving and has 360° parking sensors and a 180° rear camera. It will also open and lock automatically using proximity sensor technology. The route of electric cars via GPS means that the car will locate the nearest charging point on its route, among 600,000 charging problems across Europe. The same set of programs as always is available to maximize connectivity. E-control lets you start and avoid charging remotely, and there’s a voice-activated virtual assistant and Chat GPT functionality. There are 3 trim levels: Techno, Premium, and Sport.
In addition to internal competitors such as the electric Vauxhall Mokka and the DS3 Crossback e-tense, the main festival comes from Volvo’s impressive EX30 and the Smart #One. This is the new paradigm of family cars, but Alfa Romeo, more than any other, needs to introduce a bit of romance into the equation. The Special Launch Edition can be ordered now, with the Progesso grille, Spiga vinyl and fabric interior interior and eight-color interior lighting.
Pricing is confirmed, but Alfa estimates the entry-level vehicle will slash the Jeep Avenger’s £34,000 starting price.
