Starting September 1, 2020, U.S. buyers will use the Porsche Design online page to set up and order traditional wristwatches. The new watch configurator is based on the Porsche car configurator and will create around 1.5 million unique designs.
Porsche Design founded through Ferdinand Alexander Porsche in 1972. F.A. Porsche, designer of the original 1966 Porsche 911, grandson of the founder of the family business circle. A watch is the first product to be advertised through Porsche Design, a wholly owned subsidiary of Porsche Automobil Holding SE. The company has recently sold clothes, glasses, bags and suitcases, electronics and accessories under the Porsche Design label, as well as watches.
In 2016, Porsche Design began promoting special watches connected to express cars. Only the owners of the related vehicles were allowed to purchase the corresponding watches. The acquisition of a 911 Speedster 2019 included the privilege of paying an additional $12911 (initial price) for a corresponding Porsche Design chronometer.
The new bespoke watch program does not require the acquisition of a new 911, according to Rolf Bergmann, managing director of Porsche Design Timepieces AG, “watches belong to cars”. The traditional virtual configurator will allow Porsche Design to combine traditional watches that enlarge the pleasure of owning a sports car. Buyers can specify styles and colors of cases and dials to fit or complete their vehicle, as well as a variety of movements, bracelets, and bracelets.
Traditional watches are built around a 42 mm case, either in the form of herbal titanium cake with glass beads or black titanium. A new movement, WERK 01.100, qualified through the Swiss Official Chronometer Control Institute (COSC), is guilty of timing. The winding rotor is traditional, mimicking the newer 911 generation wheel models. A two-tone or gold Porsche crest can be specified for the center of the “wheel”, and there are six other types of rotor from where, and the edges of the rim can add a color. Leather watch straps are made of the same leather as Porsche seats and can be sewn with a selection of 19 Porsche thread colors. Steel bracelets are made of titanium, either butter or black. Buyers can order two additional bracelets or bracelets according to the watch order and use a new formula of quick-change buttons to exchange bracelets without tools.
Once the visitor has made all their selections, the configurator generates a traditional code. The visitor can take the code to any Porsche car dealership to begin the ordering process. The code is sent to Porsche Design’s production facility in Soleure, Switzerland, and the watch is produced and delivered within 8 to 12 weeks. In an ideal setting, the visitor of a new 911 can simply place the order of their new car and see it on the same tour of the showroom, and receive the car and watches simultaneously.
