Volvo’s next-generation coupe-SUV preview

Volvo will give its next-generation SUVs a more sublime design to publicize efficiency, according to the company’s design director. It is the idea that the Swedish logo plans to expand its diversity with a new purely electric style every year until 2025, with SUVs and crossovers being the main objective.

The beginning of diversity will be a new Volvo V40, which will acquire an improved flavor rather than a classic hatchback taste, just as Citroen did with the new C4. There will be several larger SUVs, one of which is similar in length to our unique symbol advances. This new generation of Volvo models can have an SUV-flavored design, frame cover and raised frame height, but with a more compact and sublime design to help aerodynamics and therefore power and diversity.

Following the launch of the previous Volvo XC40 Recharge this year, a variety of all-electric models is being developed. Volvo plans to launch one each year, starting with the next third-generation XC90 in 2021. The company will continue to offer its sedans and domains, but believes it will target more SUV markets.

Speaking to our sister Auto Express, Robin Page, senior vice president of design, showed that Volvo’s diversity will change.

“Moving to electrification gives us the opportunity to reconsider what cars are. We are more open not only to repeating what we have done before, but also to looking for opportunities in bigger and smaller cars,” Page said. “As a design team, we explore beyond the obvious and, of course, with electric vehicles, it provides demanding opportunities and situations in terms of aerodynamics and balance with people’s desires in terms of space.”

He added that electric cars and SUVs “contradict others” because it is more difficult to make those giant cars aerodynamic and efficient.

“The most complicated component of the long term is the global SUV, because the classic SUV is a raised tip and roof. As we use electric vehicles, the price of diversity and aerodynamics becomes a real point.”

“What is the global look like when other people need this superior position and all the usability of an SUV, in balance with the fact that they need autonomy? Clean aerodynamics”.

To achieve this, we expect Volvo to provide its cars with a softer front, aerodynamic alloy wheels and external mirror cameras; however, this may be optional, as is the case with the Audi e-tron SUV line.
