Volvo’s global plug-in sales recover to 20,000 in October 2022

Volvo Cars (part of Geely) recorded 54,317 international car sales in October, up 6. 9% from a year ago and the consecutive positive result after more than a year of decline. However, this is still enough to make up for lost sales earlier this year due to production constraints. Since the beginning of the year, Volvo has sold 483,304 cars (down 16. 9%).

In the case of sales of plug-in electric cars, things are going well. In October, Volvo sold just about 20,000 plug-ins (up 25% year-on-year), which also represents 36. 8% of the total volume (not far from a record).

“Overall underlying demand for the company’s cars remains strong, with its diversity of purely electric cars and plug-in hybrid charging. “

Volvo can be pleased that its sales of all-electric cars nearly tripled year-over-year to 8,148 and reached a percentage of 15% of total sales for the first time. This is an exceptional result, given that a new generation of BEVs is fast. that is coming.

Plug-in hybrids dropped slightly, but still retain a percentage of about a fifth.

Volvo charging result:

So this year, Volvo sold more than 148,000 plug-in electric cars, nearly a third of the total volume.

Volvo Recharge sales since the beginning of the year:

For reference, in 12 months of 2021, Volvo sold around 190,000 plug-in electric cars.

Volvo is expected to continue expanding its sales of plug-in cars, especially electric ones, once it introduces its new generation of BEVs.

Geographically, as usual, Volvo’s maximum plug-in cars were sold in Europe (14,287 in October and 95,601 so far this year).

In the United States, sales increased in October by 20% year-over-year to 2528 (835 BEVs and 1693 PHEVs).

Interestingly, China experienced a 25% drop to 917 units, but this can be very similar to local COVID-19 lockdowns.

Volvo includes two all-electric models, the Volvo C40 Recharge and the Volvo XC40 Recharge. In October, the company sold 5,042 electric XC40s (78%) and 3,106 C40s (new). Both figures are a record consecutive month.

Soon, Volvo will introduce next-generation BEVs, which are expected to boost sales. First in the line is the Volvo EX90, an electric successor to the outgoing Volvo XC90.
