Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) introduces the EW240 grid-connected electric curtain manipulator, the latest addition to its leading array of zero-tailpipe Volvo CE machines moving towards a carbon-neutral future. This solution evolved in collaboration with one of its legal partners.
With an uninterrupted cable connection, the near-silent EW240 can run 24 hours a day to avoid the need to refuel or charge, making it the ideal companion for indoor use or in waste and recycling applications.

It delivers a significant reduction in noise, vibration, and heat as well as zero exhaust fumes – creating a more comfortable work environment and opening up new business opportunities. The grid-connected wheeled excavator will be available to select customers in Europe from January 2024.
Not only is the EW240 a better choice for the environment, but it also opens up a host of new business opportunities. With 0 exhaust emissions and near-silent operation, it is the best solution for noise-sensitive spaces, outdoors or even indoors, low-carbon spaces and for running for unsociable hours.
Its quieter operation means less hassle for the operator and those working on site, as well as those in the surrounding area.
Electric responses, such as the EW240 electric manipulator, are well suited for recycling and waste control applications, helping to deliver a more sustainable way of operating that aligns with the company’s environmental ambitions and operations.
Thanks to electrification, the EW240 can go longer between shifts, which means lower maintenance costs than a diesel alternative. By not having engine-related consumables such as engine oil, filters, and water separator, it also reduces downtime and prices.
A cable connection makes the EW240 electric curtain manipulator the ideal choice for increasing productivity and reducing operating costs in static applications. This electric curtain manipulator provides operators with the same functionality as traditional machines, with the added advantages that there is no need to avoid paints to refuel or recharge.
Instead, operators can continue to operate for as long as they need to, and with exceptional comfort levels, it may only take some time. Operator fun is further enhanced with a heated and suspended seat and exceptional visibility thanks to the machine’s flat bonnet. Rear and side view camera and LED lights.
“The EW240 electric curtain handler is the ideal sustainable solution for the waste and recycling solution, an industry where circularity is the focus,” said Thomas Nather, SAS Business Project Manager at Volvo CE. “By offering near-silent, zero-emission electric solutions, we are helping our consumers more sustainably and effectively complete their transformation process, while reducing the burden on their operations. “
