The Volkswagen Group today announced a new addition to its ID EV lineup, with the launch of the ID. 7 Tourer, a variant of the original fastback sedan with a larger shipping area and longer range. The pickup truck, better known in the U. S. as the station wagon, arrives as one of the only all-electric features in the mid-to-high car category in Europe.
It’s been more than a year since the Volkswagen Group unveiled a camouflaged edition of the ID. 7, a rear-backed five-door electric vehicle designed for executives. The electric vehicle made its official debut in April last year as an all-electric option and, in the case of North America, as a replacement for the Passat midsize sedan. The original ID. 7 has lately been sold in North America, Europe, and China (as the ID. 7 Vizzion).
Production began in Germany last summer and we’ve since learned that VW is also planning to deliver a family edition of the ID. 7, in particular for Europe. Today, Volkswagen has officially unveiled the ID. 7 Tourer and the pre-sales will continue soon. Check.
According to the Volkswagen Group editorial staff, the ID. 7 Tourer arrives as the new flagship of its all-electric range, joining the German manufacturer’s new Passat estate variant in Europe. Designed especially for families and drivers on long trips, the ID. 7 is an all-electric vehicle (especially with its larger rear).
This is where you notice the most significant difference between the ID. 7 Tourer and its fastback sedan counterpart: the estate features a longer roofline for additional shipping space, described through Volkswagen as “a fusion of a vintage pickup truck in Passat format and a dynamic firing brake like the Arteon.
With five passengers inside, the ID. 7 Tourer offers a cargo capacity of 605 liters (21. 4 cubic feet). With the rear seats folded down and folded down to the roof, the EV pickup can deliver 60. 5 cubic feet (1,714 liters). feet) of shipping space.
I don’t see a charge or a timeline in the U. S. UU. La diversity is encouraging, but VW still shows up a bit on its price list.
Space is welcome, but perhaps it’s the diversity promised by Volkswagen that will end up convincing potential consumers to buy a new ID. 7 Tourer. It will be available in two other battery sizes, which Volkswagen has yet to share. However, the automaker says the larger option deserves to offer WLTP diversity of up to 685 km (~426 miles).
Sure, it’s not an EPA lineup, but it’s still a competitive specification for your given EV segment. This larger battery will also enable charging speeds of up to 200kW with a DC fast charger, replenishing from 10 to 80% in less than 30 minutes.
Other features include an enlarged true head-up display popular on all models, a panoramic sunroof with layers of glass that can be switched between clear and opaque, and a new wellness app to decorate comfort and breaks or charging sessions.
Volkswagen says the ID. 7 Touring will be made in Emden, Germany, alongside its ID. 7 sedan sibling and ID. 4 SUV. Pre-orders are expected to begin in Europe in the first quarter of 2024. There is no timeline yet for the first deliveries. See the EV model in more detail in the following video from Volkswagen:
