Zwickau plays a key role in the transition from formula to electric mobility: for the first time, a gigantic car production plant is completely switching to electric mobility, with investments of around 1.2 billion euros. Green energy is used exclusively in the production of battery cells that consume a lot of power for ID.4.

With its strong access to electric mobility, Volkswagen contributes to climate coverage and therefore creates long-term customers for some 100,000 workers in its German factories. In addition to production at the Zwickau plant, component plants in Brunswick, Kassel, Salzgitter and Wolfsburg also handle the production of electric cars. They manufacture key parts such as electric motors or battery systems. ID.3 will also be built at Gleserne Manufaktur in Dresden from 2021. Car production plants in Emden and Hanover are expected to start building electric cars from 2022.
