The fatal twist of fate occurred on Oct. 20 at Shattuck Avenue and Bancroft Way.
The victim later known as Williams Evans of Berkeley.
Police first believed Evans was the cause of the collision, but then went to the hospital.
The truck’s motive force remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.
On Tuesday, citizens and a coalition of teams gathered at the crash site to honor Evans and call for crosswalks in Berkeley.
The Telegraph for People, Walk Bike Berkeley and Senior and Disability Action teams have called on the city to modify traffic infrastructure for road injuries and fatalities.
