The guys from Dinan need no introduction. They are basically the AC Schnitzer of the US, offering incredibly well-designed products for BMW cars, without voiding your warranty. The team has recently brought out a new exhaust system for the BMW X3 M and X4 M models, compatible with Competition versions as well. The new axle-back system doesn’t just change the note of the exhaust but has other benefits as well.
According to Dinan, his measurements at the bench showed that when supplied with his exhaust, the BMW X3 M models gained up to 8 horsepower and 6 lb-ft of torque. That’s not much, but since it also comes with a higher sound and a lighter structure (saving up to five pounds compared to the original version), this makes it a compelling argument. The design is rarely too sloppy, although only the 4 114 mm exhaust pipes in black ceramic or polished finishes are visible.
The exhaust is made of 100 percent 304 brushed stainless metal and has a TIG weld that looks great. It is also a little wider than the original configuration. While the cars are supplied with 70 mm pipes for the exhaust of the meeting line, the Dinan edition has a diameter of 76 mm. As usual, the exhaust works with the car computer, allowing you to access the valves on the ultimate mufflers as you would in an original model.
At the end of the day, many other people will replace their escapes only according to the sound and, as you can hear in the sound excerpts then the Dinan escape has a very good sound. It’s not too noisy, it’s not too hoarse, just right. It’s also not expensive, as it comes from a tuner known as Dinan. At $2, 300, it’s a smart deal. Find out in the photos and video below.
