Victoria has authorized asymptomatic testing of truck drivers as part of a concession to the anti-pandemic border rules in South Australia.
But in a freight Victoria weekend update on the National Cabinet’s freight traffic code, the state government said it would not be involved.
“Victoria has not closed its borders, so it is not required to code and will not publicly control asymptomatic cargo operators,” the ministry said.
“Cargo operators may have the opportunity to perform asymptomatic personal tests that can be arranged through employers with personal pathology labs.
“Asymptomatic drivers who pass their tests in a personal lab are NOT required to isolate themselves while they wait for their results. Cargo operators travelling in the Melbourne Metropolitan domain must comply with the instructions for the fourth stage, as well as having an appropriate Covid-proof plan and legal paint permit.”
The resolution comes after weeks of requests for action from the Victoria Transport Association (VTA).
“Forums have evolved after many meetings and discussions over the next week to ensure there is as much consistency as you can imagine in Australia regarding border crossing requirements,” said Peter Anderson, VTA’s chief executive.
“This means that cargo operators and motor force employers can perform asymptomatic personal Covid-19 tests in personal pathology labs.
“More importantly, asymptomatic drivers who pass their tests in a personal lab must isolate themselves while they wait for their results.”

The VTA says it has requested a list of Victorian government laboratories where evidence is available.
The Ministry of Health informs the settlement that the check does not require a referral from a doctor and will be billed to Medicare in bulk.
The adjustment was expected to put an end to delays on South Australia’s border with Victoria.
“Asymptomatic testing for heavy vehicle drivers means operators in Victoria must now meet the needs in South Australia for Covid testing every seven days as a condition of obtaining a border crossing permit,” Anderson says.
“We welcome the Victorian government’s alignment with other jurisdictions and will continue to vigorously call for sensible responses so that the cargo movement crosses our borders and the vital paintings of our members can continue with minimal disruption.”
In New South Wales, the Department of Transport informs truck drivers: “When arriving at the site, drivers must identify themselves by offering their name, driver’s license number and tactile information, adding the cell phone number to report the results. .
“A pattern will be taken and the effects will be returned to the drivers on their cell phone number.
“The test effects take up to 48 hours.
“We know these are difficult times with many changes. We appreciate your feedback on verification sites and for proceeding to provide an essential product to businesses and communities in New South Wales and throughout the country, and our goal is to turn it into paints safely and as successfully as possible.
“We will continue to work to increase the availability of specific cargo in strategic locations in New South Wales.”
