A used car dealership that closed its doors earlier this year is “flying high” once it’s back, but not in the way you might expect.
In fact, police discovered a gigantic hashish farm, with a market price of thousands of pounds, inside the empty showroom.
The operation took place at the former Hamilton Car Sales facility in Northampton, which had been empty for several months.
Officials became aware of the illegal operation after being alerted by an electric company that detected activity at the site.
Police then responded to the scene and discovered the farm, which includes 320 plants in five rooms, according to the Northampton Chronicle.
Northants police obtained the initial report from the power company last Wednesday (July 31) and are now waiting to receive data to be submitted.
A spokesman for the force said: “Shortly before 3. 10pm on 31 July, we received a report from electricity company contractors of a hashish crop at a commercial premises in Kingsley Park Terrace, Northampton.
“The agents went to the scene and discovered a hashish farm on the site, with more than 320 plants spread over five rooms.
“Forensic examinations are underway as we prepare to dismantle the culture. “
