US buildings closed in Portland after bomb threat

PORTLAND, Oregon (AP) – At least two federal buildings in Portland have been shut down and the FBI is investigating the risk of a car bomb, he said Friday.

The threat, which he won Thursday, warned of plans to use a car bomb to attack federal homes in Portland, according to two law enforcement officials. Several federal offices in the domain were closed due to the threat, authorities said. Officials were unable to speak publicly about the investigation and spoke to The Associated Press under anonymity.

Investigators are looking for the risk to be credible, the FBI said in a statement.

The Portland workplace of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court closed due to the risk of violence in the area, according to the court’s website. Federal Court Mark O. Hatfield, which was the scene of weeks of violent protests last month, also closed.

Protesters have taken to the streets of Oregon’s largest city every night since police killed George Floyd in May and continually clashed with federal agents sent to protect the courthouse. A on the court’s online page did not say why construction had been closed.

The FBI said, “If we expand the data indicating a credible threat, we will tell the public.”

This week’s protesters are angry at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Building in Portland.

People from an organization of about 100 people overdue on Thursday and Friday before sprayed the construction with graffiti, threw stones and bottles at officials and shone laser lighting devices, Portland police said in a statement.

Officers detonated smoke or tear fuel and used ammunition to disperse the crowd, The Oregonian/OregonLive reported. Three other people were arrested, police said in a statement.

It is not transparent whether this construction was included in the alleged risk or if the risk is in any way similar to those demonstrations.
