PowertrainPowerful and efficient powertrainsSanta Cruz offers two powerful, flexible and efficient propulsion systems. The popular powertrain is a direct-injected 2. 5-liter inline four-cylinder engine with 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft. of torque. This engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission for immediate acceleration and very good efficiency. Santa Cruz also offers a 2. 5L direct-injection turbocharged engine with 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft. of torque connected to an eight-speed rain dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT). This DCT features paddle shifters mounted on the idler for manual gear changes. The 2. 5L turbocharged powertrain adds a new tow mode for the 2025 model year.
Eight-speed automatic transmission The eight-speed transmission of the popular 2. 5-liter engine offers quick and accurate shifts for an engaging and efficient driving experience. A multi-disc controlled hydraulic channel torque converter improves responsiveness by widening the direct-connect strip, while a reduced oil pump and dual ball bearings minimize friction losses.
HTRAC® All-Wheel Drive The 2. 5L four-cylinder and 2. 5L turbocharged four-cylinder styles offer HTRAC® all-wheel drive for complete confidence when seeking adventures of all kinds or for added peace of mind when driving through unforeseen snowfall. The HTRAC AWD has evolved as a multi-mode formula, offering a variable torque electronic clutch with active torque between the front and rear axles. The Sport configuration gives the Santa Cruz a more nimble feel by sending extra torque to the rear wheels, for a sporty and dynamic experience. This formula offers a wide variety of torque distribution variability, suitable for situations such as straight-line acceleration, medium and high speed curves, and hill starts. For consumers who like to tow their weekend gear, the 2. 5L 4-cylinder engine is designed to tow 3500 pounds and the 2. 5L Turbo AWD style features a generous 5000 pounds towing capacity.
