Aston Villa’s dismal 17-year winless record at St James’ Park continued with a brace from Callum Wilson and goals from Joelinton and Miguel Almiron did a lot of damage in Aaron Danks’ final game before passing the baton to new head coach Unai Emery.

Alternate boss Danks retained the same XI that beat Brentford last week, Newcastle, unbeaten at home since April, had far more quality as they missed out on winners 4-0 in the north-east.

Emi Buendia had Villa’s most productive chance in the first half, with the Argentine short of too much time in the opportunity with the black and white protecting well.

Villa, meanwhile, won a blow in the 35th minute when Emi Martinez was sent off with what looked like a head injury. Martinez complained of discomfort in the 18th minute before calling doctors and Robin Olsen replaced him.

For the first game, Newcastle continued to rejoice on Joelinton’s side and the hosts returned the ball with Bruno Guimaraes feeding Almiron before Ashley Young controlled his shot on purpose. Wilson then sent the penalty in the 6th minute of first-half stoppage time.

Newcastle were endemic after the break and doubled their lead when Kieran Trippier made a quick one-two in a corner as Villa fell asleep before the English ace crossed the penalty spot from six yards. Position for 2-0.

It soon made it 3-0 when Newcastle ran flawlessly, while Olsen denied Wilson a hat-trick before Joelinton responded faster with a third quick shot. Danks then pounced on Philippe Coutinho and Jacob Ramsey in an attempt to prevent Newcastle from going crazy.

However, Eddie Howe’s men continued to pile up, and Villa can cope with Almiron by wrapping his left foot around the ball and doubling a brilliant effort past Olsen to make it 4-0 after receiving too much time from Young and Tyrone Mings.

Newcastle continued to attack at will with Wilson and then Jacob Murphy’s replacement hitting the crossbar and, respectively, before referee Paul Tierney exploded full-time.

What Aaron Danks Said

“The league is ruthless and can punish you when you’re not having a good time. The sanction was the right decision. We knew they would have momentum and they were ruthless. The score is big and hurts, but that’s what the league can do.

“Newcastle were smart in the way they placed their players. There were small tactical moments that hurt us. You have to locate the tactics to stay in the games at those times. Unfortunately, the adjustment left us. “

“It’s disappointing. The first half was an even game. The penalty gives them a little bit of confidence. We tried to change one or two things, but they had a very smart fate and punished us. “

“There are a lot of dark heads in the locker room. There are things we may have done better. Newcastle is a team in form, a team that flies high. We have to look for tactics to stay in the game. “”

Speaking about goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez’s injury, Danks said: “I haven’t had the chance to speak to the doctor yet. Emi is standing, talking, showering and changing. I am very confident. He’s fine. “

What Eddie Howe Said

“The guys competed well. It was a first half, very intermittent. Fortunately, in the middle of the moment, we were outstanding. He’s up there with one of the most productive performances of the season. “

“I’m pleased for Callum [Wilson]. Penalties are never simple, but he fixed well. He was at the centre of much of our smart football.

“It’s a remarkable ending by Miguel [Almiron]. We hope the Aston Villa goalkeeper is OK. It didn’t help the game. Fortunately, in the middle time, we were able to express ourselves better. Tonight, I hope all the fans have fun. We are already hunting in advance until next week. “

What Villa Enthusiasts Have Said

@MillingtonVilla: It’s getting a little pathetic now Villa, come on.

@lukefrxst: We are fortunate that other groups have had a bad start like ours.

@lukwilkins7: The first thing Emery has to do is force us to win away from home.

@LoardMillman28: I can’t complain, Newcastle are much bigger than us without having to leave the 1st gear, precisely the team (on the field) that we deserve to be hunting to emulate. Depressing how far they have come and we have gone backwards in such a short time. Ready for Emery now.

@AP_VILLAN: What about the speed of jobs and pressure?Newcastle shows us completely.

@avfjosh3: In my opinion, Emery’s biggest challenge is to solve our transition problem, there is enough quality here. I just want a little organization and trust.

@martindalton5: Newcastle are doing well at the moment, but it’s an incredibly poor performance from Villa after the last game

@dickiebaird: Pathetic Villa. Absolutely pathetic.

@RazaJourno: It’s an abject and pathetic performance, some of those players want to look at themselves.
