Two other people were seriously injured in a twist of fate on Whitemud’s motorcycle (police)

Motorists were pleaded to avoid the eastbound Whitemud Highway as they approached the 17th Street off-ramp Friday after a motorcycle collision on the ramp.

Edmonton police spokesman Scott Pattison said Global News officers responded to a two-vehicle collision at the rear of the ramp around 3:15 p. m.

He reported to police that a Honda motorcycle was traveling south on 17th Street when it collided with a Ford Edge that was turning onto 17th Street from the eastbound Whitemud exit ramp.

“EMS treated and transported the motorcycle driver and his passenger to the hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries,” Pattison said in an emailed statement.

Police said the driver of the Ford Edge was not injured.

The EPS Major Collision Investigation Section is investigating.

Pattison said the intersection would be closed until Friday night.
