Twist of fate between Kano and Maiduguri kills 11 people

A twist of fate at the Gaya junction along the Kano-Maiduguri highway in Kano State claimed the lives of 11 other people and injured 16 others.

The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano State Area Command, A. A. Labaran, in a statement issued late Saturday, noted that initial investigations indicated that the probable cause of the accident was speeding, which resulted in loss of control, a twist of fate. and an upcoming fire.

He said the accident, which involved two cars — a Toyota Hummer bus with registration number KTG 190 XB and a Hijet minivan with registration number KTG 501 YG — occurred at around 3:45 p. m. on Friday.

According to him, a total of 28 people were involved in the accident, 11 dead and 16 injured, while one user was rescued unharmed from the rubble.

“In reaction to this tragic event, the injured were temporarily transported to Gaya General Hospital for urgent medical care, while the deceased were respectfully buried in a mass burial ceremony.

“The commander of the CC IS sector, Abdullahi, expressed his deep sadness over the incident and the importance of complying with road protection rules and regulations,” he said.

While he recommended advertising drivers to make sure to install a speed restriction device in their cars to prevent injuries resulting from speed restrictions violations, he warned drivers to refrain from committing traffic violations such as speed violations and overloading cars with passengers, animals, or merchandise.

Labarán also reiterated the commitment of the sector command to ensure the protection of road users and will continue to accentuate its efforts to ensure that traffic legislation prevents similar incidents in the future.
