Harborough Borough Council is allocating 24 affordable housing complexes in Leicestershire with personal accesses and 46 parking spaces. If approved, they will be built on land north of Stretton Lane and west of the existing residential progression along Freer Close in the village of Houghton on the hill.
Real estate organization Developers Minster has deployed land on former farmland for a set of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom homes. The development plans state that plans have been put in place to address the housing needs in the area.
The plans imply that an application for the site was denied a few years ago and an appeal of that resolution was denied on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 for a progression of 32 homes. At the time, the inspector of plans said that the proposed wider progression “would result in unacceptable effects on the character of the domain and the rural environment of the village, i. e. a loss of openness and effects on the prospects of the village from the west and north. “

The developer said it submitted a pre-application for the affordable housing plan for the domain last year. Harborough District Council indicated in June 2023 that overall replacement in the landscape was appropriate and has put together a detailed list of design recommendations, which the new application seeks. approach, they added.
The plans imply that this recommendation has been taken into account and that proposals “must now achieve the sweet spot of design. “The commission will offer a mix of rented and purchased affordable housing, and how this will be compounded will depend on agreeing with the council’s housing department, he said.
Development plans include widening Stretton Lane near the progression site, creating a two-metre-wide pedestrian path that would join the existing footpath on the north side of Stretton Lane, and adding a pedestrian crossing to the existing footpath on the south side. of Stretton Lane.
The site is situated at the western end of the village of Houghton on the Hill, within walking distance. Existing bus stops offer normal service to Uppingham and Leicester. The village has a local number one school, a pub, a post office, a pharmacy and several playgrounds and a local shop all close by.
