President Donald Trump made a series of misleading and false statements Thursday night boasting of revitalizing Michigan’s auto industry, as reported through the Detroit Free Press.
In statements to his supporters at a rally in Michigan, he asked the crowd to vote for him, exaggerating how much car production has replaced his presidency in the state.
“You’d better vote for me, I’ve been given so many damn car factories,” he said.
At one point in the speech, he repeated the statement and promised more automotive plants.
“We have brought you many factories, we have brought you many Array . . . and we are going to bring you many more,” he said.
Only five new automotive plants have been announced as Trump’s presidency, experts from the Center for Automotive Research told The Washington Post; three of them are located in Michigan.
Among those plants, the Free Press reported that a major new meeting facility had been announced: the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles plant in Detroit, which plans to hire up to 3,850 workers.
It hasn’t opened yet. The plant has been structured since 2018 and production is expected to begin by the end of 2020.
The two floors plan to rent to less than 450 people, according to the Post Office.
Trump has referred to the creation of automotive plants during his campaign. According to the Washington Post’s database of Trump’s false and misleading claims, Trump has made misleading statements about Michigan’s auto plants 14 times.
The state, which elected Trump in the 2016 election, remains on this year’s electoral map. Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden is up 4. 2 points in the state, according to the RealClearPolitics average.
At Thursday’s rally, Trump’s crusade also expelled a reporter from the New York Times after tweeting that few participants wore masks. Moreover, Trump’s resolve to downplay the coronavirus to Americans in the face of Winston Churchill’s leadership to “stay calm and continue. “
