A driving force of a TRUCK was arrested for dangerous driving in Portlaoise today after another turn of fate on the famous Mountmellick Road railway bridge.
The road was blocked for hours after an articulated truck crashed into the bridge, the last of many encounters too close to the site. This is the third “bridge strike” since June.
Garda was called to the scene a while before lunchtime and there was a city end, until the bridge was inspected and considered safe through Iarnrod Eireann engineers.
The Laois Transit Police Unit involved in the accident. After talking to the driver, they discovered that they did not know the domain and followed Sat Nav’s instructions. He also didn’t realize the height of the trailer, which caused the collision.
Garda proved tonight that the driving force of the truck had been arrested for dangerous driving and had been accused of appearing in court.
After the bridge’s last shock, Garda issued a satellite recommendation to truck drivers. They said: “All drivers are reminded to familiarize the property with the height of their vehicle and trailer and not to rely too much on GPS for this type of incident.”
