TOKYO (Reuters) – Daihatsu Motor, the small auto subsidiary of Toyota Motor, has to halt production at all its domestic plants until the end of January, the Nikkei business daily said on Friday, without citing sources.
Following the Nikkei report, a Daihatsu spokesperson said the company is conducting discussions on the matter internally.
The small auto specialist said on Wednesday it would suspend shipments of all its cars after a safety investigation revealed defects in 64 models, adding only about two dozen sold under the Toyota brand.
The automaker, wholly owned by Toyota, has resumed deliveries from its Indonesian subsidiary, PT Astra Daihatsu Motor, the spokesperson said, adding that it is the only unit in which the company has done so.
Indonesian conglomerate PT Astra International Tbk and Toyota Tsusho also own a stake in the joint venture.
