Toyota Motor Co. announced Wednesday the recall of one million cars due to a defect that could prevent airbags from deploying, increasing the risk of injury.
The recall covers a diversity of Toyota and Lexus cars with styling years from 2020 to 2022. The recall includes Toyota Avalon, Camrys, Highlanders, RAV4, Siennas and Corollas, as well as some hybrids of those styles.
The recalled Lexus models include, but are limited to, the ES250 sedan and RX350 SUV.
The recalled cars feature sensors in the front passenger seat that arguably would have been manufactured with the utmost kindness. These sensors can also short-circuit, preventing the airbag formula from determining the correct occupant weight and potentially not deploying. in certain types of accidents.
Toyota and Lexus dealers will replace the OCS sensors and upgrade them if necessary, at no cost to owners. Toyota will notify its consumers until mid-February 2024 if its cars are subject to a recall.
Toyota owners whose car is possibly included in the recall can call 1-800-331-4331 for more details. For Lexus vehicles, owners can call 1-800-255-3987 for more information.
