As someone who visits Sin City at least 12 times a year, I know how vital it is where to stay and how a hotel can make or break your trip. Las Vegas has many hotels to offer its guests, from hyper-themed resorts that mimic prominent cities around the world, such as The Venetian, to ultra-luxury resorts such as the new Fontainebleau logo; There’s something for everyone.
On my last visit to Las Vegas, I wanted to stay at an MGM asset to test the benefits of the partnership we now have with Marriott.
If you’re staying at the New York New York Hotel and Casino, here’s what you want to know before you book.
The New York, New York hotel opened in 1997 and has been a staple of the Las Vegas Strip ever since, leaving travelers wondering if they’re in the desert or in the middle of Times Square. The hotel is about a seven-minute drive from Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) and located on the south side of the Strip.
This hotel has 2,085 rooms and suites, as well as 24 restaurants, 10 of which are full-service; the rest is a food court or quick service.
It’s also synonymous with the Big Apple roller coaster that passes by the hotel and outdoors around the false New York City skyline. The roller coaster is located inside the Big Apple Arcade, which is a hit with tourists of all ages, making it one of the most family-friendly homes on the Strip.
It’s Las Vegas, so naturally, this hotel has a giant casino with all the table games and slots; many of them are New York-themed.
This hotel is located at the southern end of the Strip. It is connected via land bridges to the famous MGM Grand, making it easy to arrive at or access the Hakkasan nightclub.
A land bridge connects it to the Excalibur Hotel.
There are several ways to book a stay in New York New York. Thanks to the new partnership between MGM and Marriott, you can book and earn Marriott Bonvoy or MGM Rewards loyalty issues. Guests can also redeem MGM or Marriott Bonvoy emissions for free nights. .
Rates can start at $55 per night and go up to $450, depending on the time you travel and the events taking place in the city. The nightly rate was $348 during my stay, probably due to a NASCAR race. event that aired over the weekend. On average, weekend rates tend to be more consistent than weekday and evening rates.
Looking ahead to the year, this hotel can be booked for as little as 9,000 Marriott Bonvoy units per night.
New York also charges a $42 stay plus tax per night. This payment is waived if you have MGM Gold or higher or if you are a Marriott Elite Ambassador.
MGM and Marriott recently unveiled a new partnership and announced it online; however, it is barely mentioned within the New York themed complex.
I chose to book electronically through Marriott Bonvoy as I have Titanium status; In my experience, you can expect a lot as an elite member of the Marriott Bonvoy. At the time of check-in, a sign indicated that elite Bonvoy Titanium and Ambassador members can only use the MGM Gold check-in area.
When I arrived, I presented a choice between a welcome gift of 1,000 Bonvoy issues or a $15 daily credit on food and beverages. I opted for the latter. The agent who checked me in also presented me with an overdue departure at noon, a far cry from the same 4 p. m. checkout I’m used to at Marriott properties.
Last summer, the rooms and suites underwent a $63 million comprehensive renovation. The renovations optimized the room’s existing dimensions, incorporating movable paint surfaces, installing readily available USB/USB-C power outlets, and adding additional garage and shelving.
In my queen-sized double room in SoHo, the beds were comfortable and luxurious. A small bedside table between the two beds contained a telephone, power outlets, and USB/USB-C ports.
Rooms featured many New York City-inspired elements, adding exposed brickwork, cottage yellow accents, and New York City-centric artwork; Some parts are a bit synthetic and kitschy.
Each room has a 55-inch TV with streaming capability, a small closet, a small table and chair, and a safe; Although I wish the TV and seats were bigger.
I was also disappointed, though not surprised, that there was no mini-fridge. This meant that if you were looking for bloodless drinks, you would have to go down and buy them. There was also no coffee maker in the room. I’ve gone to Starbucks to get my caffeine fix in the morning. Trust me, those queues can have more than 20 more people in the morning.
The bathroom was small but made clever use of space, with a shower and bathtub with smart water pressure.
Toiletries were scarce and left more to be desired. However, my favorite component of the bathroom was the mirror and smart lighting, which made it the best position to take a selfie before heading out.
The room had a decent view of the Big Apple roller coaster, but I wasn’t a fan of small, narrow windows. It would have a giant window to provide a better view of the roller coaster and the Las Vegas Strip.
Since this hotel is themed around New York City, you can expect to find similarities to the city the property is located in, not just in your room.
There are alleys full of road signs, subway stations, and fake buildings designed to make you feel like you’re literally in the Big Apple. On the outside, realize that the building itself is actually made up of replicas of prominent New York City buildings. and landmarks. So you could even find yourself sleeping in the Empire State Building or the Chrysler Building.
Beyond playing, dining, and pretending to be a New Yorker, this MGM hotel has a lot to offer its guests.
Unfortunately, during my stay, the pool was closed for annual renovations and painting in preparation for the upcoming poolside holiday season in the spring, so I was unable to access it.
Las Vegas is known for hosting pool parties daytime with world-renowned DJs at clubs such as Wet Republic, Tao Beach Club, and Encore Beach Club. Even in the colder months or inclement weather, you can head to the Marquee at the nearby Cosmopolitan. for their Dome Pool party, the only indoor poolside party in Las Vegas.
New York New York doesn’t have a spa, but there is a well-equipped gym that pleasantly surprised me. I was expecting a small gym with some equipment, but enough to get a full workout.
The gym had a small weight training section, lots of aerobic machines, and a small variety of weight machines. There were cold towels for visitors and a water bottle refill station.
Since I’m a foodie, I’d love to see the other cuisines featured in restaurants to see how they compare to New York’s colorful food scene.
My hardest resolution over the holidays was deciding which restaurants to eat at, and it’s safe to say that no one will go hungry here. There were features for every budget, from undisputed fast-food courts to full-service restaurants.
I stopped at Broadway Burger Bar and had a Broadway Signature burger with fries ($17), which was a shoddy burger with bacon, lettuce, and tomatoes. Although plentiful, it lacked flavor or character. At that price, I went to Shake Shack, a must-try place to eat in New York; At least the burgers are still smart and I know what to expect.
The night after the trip, I stopped at II Fornaio, because he had an Italian sense of humor. Again, the food disappointing. I went with the calamari ($18) as an appetizer. They were undercooked and the sauce wasn’t very good.
Then I chose the Fradiavola pizza (24). The pizza lacked genuine flavor and was undercooked. For the price, I can’t propose it at all. Save money and opt for the on-site pizza to eat slices in the upstairs food court or at the Sbarro across the street.
I didn’t get a chance to eat at Gallagher’s Steakhouse, but the staff highly recommended it; Although, with the previous meals I’d had on the property, I had doubts about it. Steaks start at $65, but I objected because I wanted to stretch my money and potentially save myself a (costly) disappointment.
There’s also full room service, again, I chose not to check out to save money.
Outside the hotel is The Park, a dining space filled with food carts and chain restaurants like Shake Shack, Tom’s Watch Bar, and Luke’s Lobster.
New York City’s bar scene probably offers endless options. From the Coyote Ugly outpost in Las Vegas to a dueling piano bar and a bustling Irish pub, anything for everyone.
At the Chocolate Bar at Hersey Chocolate World, I tried the $16 Raspberry Chocolate Coffee Martini, which was excellent. The bar also offers plenty of sweets and comfortable drinks. I had to walk past this bar to get to my room every time. , and it was full of people.
The Hotel New York New York offers attractions for all ages, such as the world-famous Cirque du Soleil show, as well as the Hershey Chocolate World, synonymous with Times Square. There’s also a giant game room with games for young and old.
The most notable attraction is the Big Apple roller coaster. The red runway stands out against the skies of the Las Vegas Strip; It goes outside, goes around the building, and ends inside, on the floor of the casino. I was lucky enough to ride the roller coaster, and it was a complicated and painful, but exciting experience. I intend to ride it at least once if you want. You’re a thrill seeker. Tickets for one trip start at $25, and you can get a reduction for some other trip if you don’t get enough adrenaline.
As usual in Las Vegas, I’ve stayed at many hotels on the Las Vegas Strip. If your nightly rate in New York is over $180 or over 20,000 Bonvoy points, I suggest checking other features like your hotel next door. Neighboring, Park MGM. Es one of the most productive budget features on the Strip with newly renovated rooms. I’d also opt to eat somewhere else, but if I’m in a hurry, there are some useful features.
I wish I had noticed more posters detailing the partnership between MGM and Marriott, and I hope to turn a profit in the future. But if the nightly rate is good, I’ll stay here because of its location.
