Delaware State Police are investigating a three-vehicle collision that occurred in Newark Thursday morning.
On October 20, 2022, at approximately 11:35 a. m. , a Tesla Model 3, driven through a 21-year-old from Newark, DE, observed through a soldier traveling south on Interstate 95 south of the JFK service domain at a higher speed level. The soldier entered southbound Interstate 95 to initiate a traffic stop. However, due to the speed of the Tesla, the soldier may simply not reach it.
The Tesla continued to exit onto Route 896 northbound from Interstate 95. Upon entering the left lane of Route 896, the Tesla turned left through the gravel median. The Tesla lost and began sliding sideways into the southbound traffic lanes, and directly on the trail of a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox traveling in the left lane of southbound Route 896. The front of the Chevrolet hit the passenger side of the Tesla. The Chevrolet was then driven into the right lane of the southbound highway. 896, where it was struck by a 2018 Subaru Forester. The Tesla turned south counterclockwise and stopped in the left lane of southbound Route 896. The Chevrolet and Subaru stopped on the right shoulder. Upon touching the occupants of the Tesla, the infantrymen detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle and placed approximately 30 grams of suspicious marijuana in plain sight on the floor on the front passenger side.
The driver of the Tesla, who was not properly restrained, was transported to a local hospital for his injuries. Currently, disability is suspected to be a factor in this collision. The effects are awaiting the effects of a toxicological examination.
Also in the Tesla, a 20-year-old man, who was not strapped to the front passenger seat. He was transported to a domain hospital with serious injuries. The 19-year-old rear passenger of the Tesla, who was not properly restrained, was transported to a local hospital. for non-life-threatening injuries.
The operator of the Chevrolet, a 69-year-old man from Delaware, very well contained. The operator of the Subaru, a 53-year-old man from Pennsylvania, very well controlled. Both operators were transported to a local hospital with life problems. -threatening injuries.
Southbound Route 896 closed from West Chestnut Hill Road to Interstate 95 for about four hours while the destination turn was investigated and the road was clear.
This is still an active investigation and fees will be established.
