One of the rarest Jaguars is waiting to be bought.
RM Sotheby’s recently put one of 27 XJR-15 road cars up for sale in California. The fact that the supercar is even in play is remarkable, but this example also has less than a hundred miles on the odometer.

The XJR-15 owes its creation to Jaguar’s good luck on the track as the ’80s gave way to the ’90s. The company’s XJR-9s and XJR-12s, built through Tom Wilkenshaw Racing, took the checkered flag at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Soon after, someone came up with the brilliant idea that consumers might be interested in a road car powered by victorious racers. The resulting car, the XJR-15, is a sporty V-12 with a chassis designed by Peter Stevens and made primarily of carbon fiber (a novelty for a road car). Jaguar Sport, a joint venture between the automaker and the racing team, built 50 examples between 1990 and 1992, only 27 were homologated for road use.
This example is already on sale, chassis number 008, manufactured in 1991. It’s finished in a rich metallic blue over a grey leather interior. It even still has a white Jaguar Sport sticker on the top of its windscreen. The car was imported from Japan to the U. S. It was sent to the U. S. through its current owner in 2018, so the idler is on the right side of the cab. Each of the race-style seats is equipped with a stressed headset so that the driver and passenger can hear each other clearly. , regardless of the noise point in the vehicle.
The XJR-15 is powered by a naturally aspirated 6. 0-liter V12 that can generate 450 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The production may not seem great today. It was also enough to get the car from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3. 2 seconds and reach a top speed of 350 km/h. It’s fast, even by today’s standards. This example is only 78 miles long, which means it has been lightly touched since it left the factory, but has been serviced since it left the factory.
RM Sotheby’s is lately negotiating a personal sale of the vehicle. Pricing is available upon request, but it’s also expensive. Every time an XJ-R hits the market in recent years, it sells for at least $1 million. This one has the possibility of charging a lot more due to its low mileage.
