These Hyundai and Kia models are blacklisted through State Farm Insurance for theft

The consequences of the Kia Boys continue, as major insurance corporations now refuse to insure new Hyundai and Kia models because they are too easy to steal. Now, according to a recent WWL-TV report in New Orleans, two State Farm workers have provided a list of all Hyundai and Kia models that are blacklisted to be added to insurance policies. The list allegedly applies to Louisiana, Georgia, Oregon, Washington and Pennsylvania. Although the Louisiana Department of Insurance says it has been aware of those restrictions.

The Drive has reached out to Hyundai and will update that story when we have one.

Earlier this year, stealing some Hyundai and Kia models became so popular that it became a TikTok trfinish. If thieves had access to the interior of the car, they could get away with it in less than a minute, just with a flathead screwdriver. and a USB-A cable. Stealing the cars was as undeniable as pulling the back of the plastic steering column box, breaking it, ripping off the ignition cylinder and the end of a USB cable to ignite the ignition.

According to the list won through WWL-TV, the Hyundai and Kia models affected are as follows:

The explanation for why such an undeniable theft worked is that a shocking number of Hyundai and Kia models lacked engine immobilizers, meaning they didn’t want a key or key fob to start the engine. However, Hyundai has popularized engine immobilizers in all models starting in 2021. , while Kia made them popular in 2022. Some models gained immobilizers earlier, such as Kia Optima Hybrid (2016), Kia Sorento and Hyundai Veloster (2018).

All Hyundai and Kia models listed above that do not feature engine immobilizers can no longer be added to insurance policies with State Farm. However, all existing insurance plans that come with such models will remain unchanged.
