Following CD Projekt Red’s release of Cyberpunk 2077’s critically acclaimed Phantom Liberty expansion, CEO Adam Kiciński announced that the progression of a new game is underway, albeit for an entirely different but equally beloved series. Kiciński revealed that his team is already working intensively on The Witcher. 4, codenamed Polaris, with more than 330 people involved. He further stated that the studio will intensify its efforts in mid-2024, when the team is expected to grow to 400 members.
But even though Phantom Liberty received rave reviews and CDPR released The Witcher 3’s next-gen update over a year ago, a release date for its next take on the medieval series is unlikely to arrive anytime soon. In an interview with Polish news site Parkiet, Kiciński said that “dates will be announced later than earlier” after Cyberpunk’s less-than-ideal first attack. However, he hinted that they may provide more main points about their task in the coming months “to generate a lot of interest. “
In addition to highlighting the prestige of The Witcher Four Polaris, Kiciński also stated that his team will continue to work on another commission set in the Witcher universe, called Sirius, with the American studio The Molasses Flood. The remake of The Witcher 1, announced in 2022, is also being developed in collaboration with studio Fool’s Theory. CDPR has yet to announce release dates for any of the games at the time of writing.
Unfortunately, those looking for a new adventure through the futuristic city of Night City will have to wait even longer, as Kiciński pointed out that Cyberpunk 2, codenamed Orion, is still in its conceptual phase. “The team is ultimately in the process of building and its core will be made up of other people as the North American studio in Boston progresses,” he continued. A larger layout will then be built around the core team, which includes the Vancouver team and Poland-based developers.
Unfortunately, all of this means that enthusiasts may not get their hands on games developed through CD Projekt Red anytime soon.
