Used car dealerships continue to see increased sales as shoppers seek public transportation, according to a major retailer.
Big Motoring World recorded a 46% increase in sales in August compared to the same month in 2019, which is the third consecutive month of sales growth.
The store sold 2,715 in August at its London and Kent locations, up from 2,257 in June and 2,513 in July.
Peter Waddell, CEO of Big Motoring World, said: “The market for late-model quality used cars is booming right now.
“A combination of repressed calls caused by blocking and resolving many consumers to own an additional car or car at the moment compared to public shipping has pitted us against unprecedented degrees of interest in high-quality used cars, and thanks to our selection equipment and hard paints, we can offer precisely what the market requires. »
This increased demand also leads to higher values. Auto Trader’s online marketplace posted a record expansion in value in August, with the midsize hand car costing six percent more than the same month last year.
Commenting on the results, Richard Walker, Director of Data and Information at Auto Trader, said: “Over the more than five months, we have noticed a very positive trajectory for used car prices, basically due to origin issues and incredibly strong customer demand.
“While some of the source constraints have begun to decrease with the reopening of online auctions, many of our consumers report that they continue to face difficulties in supplying wholesale. Combined with the large acceleration in demand in our market, while the trajectory is possibly beginning to stabilize slightly, we are confident that costs will remain dynamic in the coming months. “
