Safran Seats had been consulting on the cuts since April and showed that it had cut 20% of its workforce in Torfaen.
The company said 68 had been fired and another 87 were on voluntary redundancy, a total of 155.
The French company Safran Seats GB in the past hired another 1200 people across the UK.
In addition to Cwmbran, the company operates in Newport, Brackley in Northamptonshire and Camberley in Surrey.
The corporation stated that the 68 layoffs were caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
A spokesman added, “We have implemented workers’ welfare and fitness facilities through our worker assistance program, as well as (having) provided the relocation of an external company to colleagues for up to 3 months.”
