Ford recently pulled out of the traditional European market for small hatchbacks by announcing that the nearly 50-year-old Fiesta race would end in 2023. But Opel shows no signs of abandoning its own city car, because those spy photos of a refurbished Corsa.
The sixth-generation Corsa was presented in 2019 and stores a platform with the 208 of its brother Peugeot. Unfortunately for Opel (and its British equivalent, Vauxhall), Peugeot did a much bigger job with pencils, and buyers turned to the more modern 208. While Peugeot city cars arrived at one point only to the Volkswagen Golf in a 2021 list of Europe’s best-selling cars, the Corsa far into eighth place.
Opel expects its upcoming Corsa facelift to close that gap, and there’s a smart chance it will. For what? Because while those photographs don’t give us a completely transparent view of the car’s face, there’s a good chance the updated Corsa will use the same unique “visor” front design seen on cars like the Crossland, Grandland, and the new Astra.
This means that the headlight accessories will be perfectly combined with a stylish black central panel that is fashionable and reminiscent of the design of the lighting fixtures and grille of cars from the 60s and 70s. What’s going on, huh? The Crossland has gained a similar facelift for 2021, so it would be up to Opel not to apply the new look to the Corsa, which is expected to be announced in early 2023.

There will also be some minor tweaks to the interior, adding updates to the infotainment system, but Opel would arguably not adopt Peugeot’s controversial, but increasingly copied, dashboard design, which requires drivers to look over the steering wheel, rather than looking the other way. See the group of indicators.
We don’t expect massive tweaks under the skin of the existing car, which offers a choice of three-cylinder petrol, four-cylinder diesel and a natural EV, with the battery edition being the fastest of the lot thanks to its generous outputs of 136 hp (138 hp) and 192 lb-ft (260 Nm). But since Peugeot has already updated the e-208 to 154 hp (156 hp), Opel is sure to do the same with the Corsa for facelift, if not sooner.
