Swiss electric vehicle start-up Piëch has returned to the drawing board for its GT sports car, which the company aims to launch on the market in 2028, four years later than planned.
Car and Driver has learned that the company, founded in 2017 through Rea Stark Rajcic and Toni Piëch, a member of the extended Porsche-Piëch family and son of engineering icon Ferdinand Piëch, has collapsed and Rajcic is no longer involved.
This setback gave Piëch time to reconsider and reconsider the GT, with the new bodywork written by David Seesing, the designer of the long-delayed sports car, the TVR Griffith. Its design for the GT bears a certain resemblance to the TVR, especially from the rear. From a three-quarter point of view, but more importantly, there’s nothing unusual about Piëch’s previous design for the GT.
Piëch is now run by Tobias Moers, former chief executive of Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz AMG, and the GT’s powertrain has been upgraded to 1,000 hp, according to Car and Driver, from 603 hp previously. The advertised functionality includes a 0-62 mph. de 2. 6 seconds time and a top speed of 187 mph.

The powertrain is made up of a pair of electric motors, located on the rear axle and which independently control a rear wheel through a 2-speed transmission. The battery is now a 90 kWh unit, up from 75 kWh, and the estimated range is 312 miles. in the WLTP cycle used overseas. A figure closer to 250 miles would likely be based on the EPA’s stricter cycle.
All of this is in a lightweight carbon fiber chassis with aluminum subframes front and rear. Piëch showed the interior design, but the car is expected to feature 2 2 seats, like the previous GT model.
According to Car and Driver, the GT is still at the level of the terracotta style and Piëch needs investments to continue its development. If all goes according to plan, production will begin in 2028 at the plant of the Canadian company Multimatic, the same company that built the last Ford GT and will also build the new Mustang GTD.
The target price is just over $200,000 and production will be limited to a few thousand units, after which Piëch will launch a second model. It will be a four-door model, announced by the original Piëch in 2019.
