The new Ypsilon EV arrives in 2024 to kick off Lancia’s resurgence

Lancia has given a first look at a redesigned Ypsilon minicar that will debut next February.

The current Ypsilon has been on sale since 2011, and is the sole vehicle offered by Lancia, a historic Italian brand that has languished for years but is being given a new shot at life under the guidance of Stellantis. A previous failed attempt to rebadge Chryslers as Lancias is probably best ignored.

Lancia’s latest facelift will expand the diversity to three vehicles, starting with the new Ypsilon, which will offer buyers a choice of electric or petrol powertrains. It will be followed by iconic styling and a modern Delta in 2026 and 2028 respectively, either of the two. that run solely on electric power.

Teaser photos of the exterior and interior Ypsilon display component were unveiled in April, and designs for both were presented on Lancia’s HPE Pu Ra prototype. The teaser photo of the interior shows the signature of Cassina, an Italian high-end furniture company that served as the inspiration for the interior design of the new Lancias. There will also be special editions of the Cassina brand, such as the style shown in the teasers.

Lancia hasn’t provided any specific details on the Ypsilon. The car will likely be a hatchback using Stellantis’ CMP platform. The platform is designed for subcompact cars and supports electric and gas powertrains.

Lancia’s flagship, which would possibly be called the Aurelia, a name taken from a series of Lancias introduced in the 1950s (and a Roman road), has been proven through Lancia to be a 185-inch-long “fastback” that runs on Stellantis. STLA Medium modular EV platform.

The Delta will likely be a compact hatch, like the original.

Don’t expect any of the new Lancias to come to the US, as the logo is aimed entirely at the European market.
