The biggest release is clearly Fast & Furious, right?
August is almost here, and if you ask me, it’s the most productive month of the year, and not because it’s my birthday on the 27th. Of course not. I’m not biased at all. Regardless of my compromised opinion, August is the time when game versions start to grow, and with a new console coming on the horizon, this year is no exception.
August’s diversity of games offers an incredibly varied mix of titles, meaning there will be something for everyone this month. Whether you’re a fan of sports games (simulated and silly), old strategy games, racing games, independent titles or a sweet and sweet that looks like a fusion between a real war and Total Wipeout. Here are the biggest new games from August 2020.
Developer: Mediatonic Editor: Return Digital Platform(s): PC, PS4
Return Digital may have the next good fortune in hand with Mediatonic’s Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, because the game hasn’t even come out of the closed beta and is already one of the most watched games on Twitch. Since Fall Guys will also be featured on PS4 as a component of the PS Plus program, millions of players will have access to the game from day one, ensuring the good fortune of the game in the coming years. It worked for Rocket League, didn’t it?
If you still don’t know what Fall Guys is, it’s an unconventional real battle. 60 players compete in a variety of physics-based platform challenges, with a certain number of players eliminated at the end of both circulars. Do you know this first circular of Takeshi Castle, where another hundred people go out to climb a big wall? Imagine that this happens with one and both challenges and you are there. It’s absolute chaos and we’re excited.

Nothing to do with a short-lived 1984 British television series, which is a reference that will likely fly above everyone’s head, Skully is a three-dimensional action platformer that sees players play the role of a newly reanimated skull. It turns out that you have been resurrected through a deity that needs you to end a confrontation between the 3 brothers of the deity that can threaten the island where everyone lives.
As a skull, you can stroll around the island, using your new discovered powers to cross an island landscape full of diverse ecosystems. It can also be remodeled in 3 different ways that will help you succeed in inaccessible spaces of the past or defeat enemies. It’s like a Super Monkey Ball platformer, but good. Let’s take a look at About Super Monkey Ball Adventure.
Developer: Slightly Mad Studios Publisher: Bandai Namco Platform(s): PC, PS4, Xbox One
It’s time to drink a full tank of Crowns and live life 400 meters at a time, as Fast and Furious: Crossroads arrives. All right, let’s be honest, this game will rarely set the world on fire. It’s a connection to a movie, so it’s probably more of a loss of cash than anything else, however, in a world where video connections seem to be weird, we’re going to welcome Fast and Furious with open arms. I mean, World War II was pretty good, so it might be, too. That’s the logic we’re running here with.
At a minimum, the game features a full voiceover from the original cast, which repeats its roles in Crossroads, and the game’s heists, cars and gameplay were developed in collaboration with Dennis McCarthy, the franchise’s official car coordinator. At the very least, this will be an original Fast and Furious experience, which means it will probably be a laughing adventure, even if it’s forgettable.
Developer: Creative Assembly, Feral Interactive Editor: SEGA, Feral Interactive Platform(s): PC
“No, it’s just a big wooden horse. There are no infantrymen here, honest! – Otherwise, outside Troy, around the 12th century BC.
The Total War series is sometimes considered one of the most productive tactics for living ancient conflicts, and now Creative Assembly takes a masterful look at the Trojan War with A Total War Saga: Troy Inspired through the works of Homer Illiad, you’ll be able to 1 of 8 heroes and assist shape the course of the Trojan War.
Troy will come with the same turn-based strategy logo and real-time battles that players battle to protect or conquer the Trojan Kingdom once and for all. As an added bonus, the game will be loose for the first 24 hours when it launches on epic Games Store, which deserves to smear the sour taste in the mouths of some who prefer to watch the game on Steam. A loose game is fun.
Developer: EA Vancouver Publisher: EA Platform(s): PS4, Xbox One
Yes, we know that Madden NFL 21 will also be presented on August 28, however, there are already enough sports games on this list, one of them is also an EA game, so anything had to happen. We haven’t forgotten, don’t worry. In the meantime, let’s report on EA Sports UFC 4, the next episode of the MMA game series.
UFC 4 will follow on from the previous game with an updated career mode, which sees players going from backyard MMA brawls to headline UFC PPV events for the world title. The trailer also seemed to hint you’d be fighting in some Enter The Dragon/Mortal Kombat fight lair, which doesn’t seem too far off UFC’s current Fight Island arrangement. I’m telling you, Dana White is Shao Kahn in disguise. The Outworld invasion is coming.
Developer: Asobo Studio Publisher: Xbox Game Studio Platform(s): PC
Microsoft Flight Simulator has been a regular feature in PC games, with a history dating back to the 1980s. That said, Microsoft Flight Simulator is the first proper edition of the series since Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition 2014, a reissue of a 2006 game. Obviously, new access is needed.
Released the first day on Xbox Game Pass for PC, Microsoft Flight Simulator is precisely what it says in the title, giving players the ability to run a highly technical device without compromising the lives of those on board. If it’s nothing else, it’s a smart opportunity to fly a plane on the Hudson River while listening to A Real Hero from College-Electric Youth.
Developer: HB Studios Publisher: 2K Games Platform(s): PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, Stadia
It’s almost time to start, so your most productive driver, befriend a caddie and drive your Cadillac Escalade on a tree, while the PGA Tour 2K21 is presented on all major platforms. Developed through the creators of the Golf Club, the PGA Tour 2K21 is the next evolution of this series, only 2K participate, so there are plenty of microtransactions.
PGA Tour 2K21 is the first time in a long time that the PGA has held a prominent position in a golf game. As such, the game will come with 15 fully authorized PGA courses, adding many recognizable favorites like TPC Sawgrass. Unfortunately, there is no Pebble Peach or St. Andrews, but there is a course builder, so you can expect assembled models about a week after launch.
Developer: Metronomik Editor: Sold Out Ltd Platform(s): PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch
No Straight Roads could attract anyone who has had enough of this “new dance music” because you’re an indie rock duo with the goal of tearing down EDM’s No Straight Roads empire, which deserves to be called simply EDMpire. Sorry Metronomik, your game looks great and everything, but you’ve definitely missed something when it comes to naming your villains.
As a game, No Straight Roads is hard to pinpoint because it combines a third-person action adventure with rhythm-based elements. As a duo of Mayday and Zuke, you make your way through the NSR army, crushing their concerts to get out and lose Vinyl City from its tyrannical control. Our boy Jimmy controlled to preview the game and it looks like it might be the meeting place in August.
Developer: Square Enix Editor: Square Enix Platform(s): PS4, Switch, Mobile
It wouldn’t be a month in the gaming industry in 2020 without some kind of remastering, and this month’s access is courtesy of Square Enix, which brings back Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. This updated edition of the game adds online cooperation and a number of new dungeons, making it the ultimate edition of a classic game.
Players create their own characters and navigate the world in their caravan, confronting monsters, solving puzzles and exploring dungeons, facing the fatal miasma that plagues the global. Perhaps most interestingly, a Lite edition of the game will be released for free, and Lite players can fit in with those who own the full game to realize everything the game has to offer.
Developer: Tamsoft Editor: Bandai Namco Platform(s): PC, PS4, Switch
Lowkey, one of my most anticipated games this year, Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is a departure from the normal anime adaptations of Bandai Namco. Instead of a 3-d arena fighter, Rise of New Champions is a football game designed in a mold similar to arcade hits like Redcard, Mario Strikers and SEGA Superstar Soccer. That said, now I need an arena fighter Captain Tsubasa.
While players can set up games with groups that don’t deviate from the source hardware, you’ll spend most of your time with any of the game’s story modes. Episode: Tsubasa is a true manga story story story that adds many special references at times in the series, while Episode: New Hero sees you create a new character with the logo that joins one of Japan’s 3 most prestigious schools as a football prodigy.
Developer: Slightly Mad Studios Publisher: Bandai Namco Platform(s): PC, PS4, Xbox One
Bandai Namco and Slightly Mad Studios are taking over the racing game market this month, as if Fast and Furious rarely tickled you, you have to resort to Project Cars 3. While it might seem more simulation-oriented than its street racing/heist counterpart, Project Cars 3 offers many customizable features to attract more casual racing game enthusiasts.
Project Cars 3 offers many innovations on the previous game of the series, adding a deeper race mode, an A.I. and an improved delight for player controllers so you don’t have to pay for a race guide wheel. While this might not redefine racing games, it’s still very enjoyable.
Developer: DONTNOD Entertainment Editor: Xbox Game Studios Platform(s): Xbox One, PC
Far from being an excuse to embark on an exciting version of The Backstreet Boys’ I Want It That Way, tell me why it’s DONTNOD Entertainment’s newest 3-part episodic adventure game. Unlike the more supernatural elements of the Life is Strange series, Tell Me Why is a much more well-founded story that sees the Alyson and Tyler twins try to confront the demons of their past. Players will know the occasions from any point of view and will make possible options based on what to believe, what the final results of the game will be.
Tell me why it has become the first game through a developer and lead editor to provide a transgender character in a leading role, Tyler moving from woman to man. DONTNOD has worked with organizations like GLAAD to ensure that Tyler’s rebuke is original and multidimensional. This will match Life is Strange 2, as portions 2 and 3 start one week after the other, meaning you might not expect a full year to finish the story.
