Marvels debuted Wednesday with lackluster critical ratings, making it the third-lowest-rated MCU movie of all time, and also the third “rotten” in the series’ history. Well, at least one of the numbers has been replaced now.
At the time of writing yesterday, there were around 60 reviews for The Marvels, bringing the score to 54% on Rotten Tomatoes. But as time went on, dozens and dozens more reviews poured in and now, with 145 reviews, the film has reached 61%, just above the limit of being “fresh” rather than “rotten” on the site.
However, this supersedes the general order. It’s still the third-lowest-rated MCU movie unless it can earn a bit more to overtake Thor: Love and Thunder:
Still, with 7% piling up as more reviews come in, it’s not impossible. But at this point, it doesn’t matter if you’re the third- or fourth-worst Marvel movie. A lower score feeds into the quality narrative surrounding the MCU. Right now, however, all eyes are on the film’s box office, which may be one of the lowest in MCU history, according to peak predictions. Current forecasts call for a $50-60 million opening weekend in the U. S. and $140 million globally. With a budget of $200 million, it may be profitable, but there are marketing prices, and it’s not a feature Disney needs to see anyway.
Disney certainly needs things to replace with the next MCU movie, which will be Deadpool 3, which comes on board after the acquisition of FOX and stars fan-favorite Hugh Jackman Wolverine. After that, the next projects are a Captain America four without Chris Evans. the Suicide Squad-type Thunderbolts, and the very conflicted production of Blade, which starts its plot from scratch while trying not to lose its star, Mahershala Ali. Then, and now we’re talking about Phase 6 in mid-2025, it’s all about Fantastic. Four, which are already in the cast, and the two Avengers movies, The Kang Dynasty, where its star Jonathan Majors could theoretically be in crime until then, and Secret Wars, which is constantly evolving given everything that’s going on.
I’m sure Disney expects The Marvels to be a low point and things will be replaced from there. They’re already adapting things to Disney Plus, creating standalone screens that require less “homework. “They’re also turning to more adult-oriented programs. Rates. Echo is MA-rated, and the new Daredevil presentation will likely be as well. With The Marvels, at least, the fact that this is aimed at a younger audience doesn’t seem to have paid off, and Marvel might start courting most older people. fans, judging by the nature of their upcoming projects. . .
As the days go by, we’re getting audience reactions and box office numbers for The Marvels. I’ll look at it and then I’ll have my own ideas.
