The man who shot the Denver police is a Mexican citizen deported in the past

A Colorado guy arrested for firing his gun at police and media helicopters at a recent protest in Denver has been known as a Mexican citizen who in the past had been deported from the United States.

Felix Missael Alva of Aurora, Colorado, arrested Monday. Alva was charged with possession of a firearm while illegally in the United States after being deported in 2010, according to the Associated Press. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service, the federal firm that handles deportation procedures, did not respond without delay to a request for comment.

Court documents imply that Alva made comments against police and then began shooting at law enforcement and television crews at a Black Lives Matter protest in May after the death of George Floyd. The arrest affidavit states that the suspect boarded a white Jeep Grand Cherokee at the home of a plaincloth detective near the Colorado Capitol on May 30 and complained, “This is not a nonviolent demonstration.”

Alva made derogatory statements and added that she called the officers “pigs,” then fired her gun and fired the police six to ten times before fleeing. Police used his license plate details to track down the suspect. During a search at their home, they discovered an Array45 caliber pistol that, according to the detective, resembled the one allegedly used by Alva on May 30.

Police also discovered anti-police symptoms and artillery fireworks in their Jeep, which they said had been used against police in past protests.

Alva is represented through a federal public defender.
