The long term of rent: how tenants can cope with expensive obligations and annoying roommates

Tenants can take on expensive obligations, live with annoying roommates and save money on refrigerators and dishwashers by moving into a new type of accommodation in Sydney.

LIV Indigo at Sydney Olympic Park, about 16 miles west of the CBD, is NSW’s first residential network designed and built exclusively for tenants, giving tenants greater flexibility in their life scenario, but vulnerability.

Residents can turn their apartment in Mirvac into a “home” through portraits freely on the walls, hanging portraits on their fingernails and having a pet.

Tenants, who are not required to pay an expensive deposit, simply point to a secure 12-month lease with a limit on rent increases.

The two towers, consisting of 315 apartments, are also accompanied by an on-site team who can set up maintenance immediately.

All apartments feature refrigerators, ovens, baking trays, microwaves, washing device and dryer, to the delight of Manager Gail.

The 24-year-old will be staying in a one-bedroom apartment next month.
