The Kia Syros is set to make its global debut on December 19. The Syros will be the fifth SUV in Kia India’s portfolio and will be a very exclusive proposition for the Indian market, only because of its shape but also because of its stance. In fact, Kia India calls the Syros a “new generation of SUV. “

Since Kia entered India in 2019, the company has been one of the fastest-growing car brands in India, mainly thanks to its exclusively SUV lineup. With Syros, Kia India is taking a new step towards SUVs. India releases trailers for the Syros and gives us an idea of what to expect from the upcoming subcompact SUV.

The first proposal of the Kia Syros is its design. Unlike other SUVs in its segment, which have a masculine or rounded appearance, the Syros presents a design language closer to that of a motorhome. In fact, the Syros will be the first SUV manufactured by Kia in India to feature the company’s Design 2. 0 philosophy as a component of its Kia 2. 0 strategy.

The subcompact SUV’s front profile is bolstered by the recently unveiled Kia EV9, with its vertical LED lighting fixtures that run during hours of sunlight, as well as a giant front bumper and butch face. At the rear, the Syros will be supplied with L-shaped LED taillights. Luminaires, fixed at the top and hooked to the roof line.

Kia India will introduce the Syros as a premium subcompact SUV, so it will get more premium features than the Kia Sonet. For starters, the Syros is expected to feature a dual-screen setup with a touchscreen infotainment system and a virtual driver demo. In addition, the infotainment formula will most likely be wireless for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Apart from this, the Kia Syros feature list may also include ventilated seats, engine start/stop button, 360-degree parking camera, wireless charger, two USB C ports, and panoramic roof opening. Meanwhile, on the protection front, the Syros will benefit from ISOFIX child seat mounts and, in all likelihood, an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

The Kia Syros will get benefits from both petrol and diesel engine options. According to the leaked brochure, the petrol variants of the Syros will be powered by a 1. 0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine that will generate 118 PS and 172 Nm of maximum torque. Meanwhile, the diesel variants will feature a 1. 5-litre diesel engine tuned for 116 PS of maximum power and 250 Nm of maximum torque.

Gearbox options for these engines will include a 6-speed manual transmission, a 6-speed torque converter automatic and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It is also likely that a 6-speed iMT gearbox will also be offered.

The Kia Syros will be located between the Kia Seltos and the Sonet. With the Syros, Kia aims to target a more premium audience than the Sonet. This means that the Syros will take on the superior trim levels of other subcompact SUVs such as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and Skoda Kylaq.
