The Kia Seltos, and if all cars are the same

A few weeks ago, Peter Sagal, and NPR presenter, tweeted that all fashion cars are “effectively the same” and I can’t help but think about it. Not only because my paintings are based on the fact that it’s not true, but because it’s a very undeniable way of thinking about cars. Too undeniable, really. And if you think that’s true, it may apply to a lot more than cars. Are all foods the same? All the clothes? All the houses? The list goes on.

Around the same time Peter Sagal tweeted this, I was running one of my normal monthly allowances, a summary of the most productive financing and rent offerings of the month. It’s usually an undeniable project, but it takes time. This time, however, I learned something interesting: the Kia Seltos has two fundamental models.

I’ve noticed the Seltos, but I haven’t driven them yet. This is a new subcompact crossover, affordable and provided with enough features to give you a decent cost for money. Follow Kia’s formula and in the end it will be a success. Sagal’s tweet wasn’t about Seltos. Because even though Seltos looks a lot like all the other cute subcompacts with a value of around $22,000, Seltos offers possible options at this price.

This is the first time I have the idea of a car offering two sets of specifications at the same base price, and that fascinates me.

Seltos LX and Seltos S, either for $21,990, come with an 8-inch touchscreen info and entertainment system, Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and a rearview camera.

The LX also has all-wheel drive.

The S maintains front-wheel drive, but loads a ton of active protection and drive force assistance functions, adding forward collision caution with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, driving force care monitoring, lane departure caution, lane maintenance assistance, lane centering assist and automatic traffic lights. You can charge all-wheel drive for $1,500.

These are … Other! It is not different enough to provide a complete argument that opposes Sagal’s genuine point, that most people would not live on the type of car they drive, but different enough to provide a genuine dilemma for a potential Seltos customer with a budget that cannot be driven beyond $22,000.

It’s too early to tell if Kia is treating this as a short-term experiment or a long-term strategy, but this can be appealing to long-term models. In general, the fundamental models do not sell very well, because the maximum buyers opt for more functions (and it is known that distributors store fundamental models, so it is less difficult to sell to more successful models), so it will be attractive to see, once there is a sufficient amount of sales knowledge of Seltos, which the edition of Entry-Level Seltos prefer buyers.

Again, I have not yet looked at the Kia Seltos 2021. I hope to drive the Seltos soon, but when I do, it’s probably not the S or the LX; we have a tendency to get middle or higher end grades for reviews, so we write about what the car has. rather than what he doesn’t do.

Do you know about other cars that offer two degrees of finishing with other appliances at the same price? I’d love to hear it.
