The tires are out of the 2023 Maserati GranTurismo coupe and it’s about time. It’s been 15 years since the launch of the first-generation GranTurismo has given Maserati plenty of time to find a suitable replacement. At first glance, it turns out that Maserati has wisely seized this time, as this new GranTurismo includes a new platform, a new engine and even an all-electric variant.
Despite the 15-year gap between cars, this new GranTurismo that differs from its predecessor, that’s not a bad thing. The predecessor is still amazing today and this new one is no other. While the GranTurismo Two-door GT car best form remains, its all-new frame now has vertical headlights, similar to the MC20 supercar, and a shell-shaped hood with two deep air intakes. Maserati calls the bonnet “cofango”, which is a small great Italian acronym for “cofano” (hood) and “parafango” (wing). However Maserati needs to call it, it’s a shell bonnet and the new GranTurismo features a classic and refreshing GT car shape that will only get better over time.
However, it’s anything still vintage under the skin. For once, Maserati turns out to be just as technological as its competitors. Its new, lightweight modular architecture is made of 65% aluminum, with magnesium sprinkled and designed from the floor to use electric and internal combustion powertrains. It is also capable of running with four-wheel drive now, which was not had in the old car.
Ferrari’s old original 4. 7-liter V8 is replaced by a new twin-turbocharged 3. 0-liter “Nettuno” V6. Generation of cylinder deactivation. However, it abandoned the MC20’s more performance-oriented dry sump formula for a more traditional rainy sump.
The GranTurismo will be available in two gasoline flavors, Modena and Trophy, but will use the same Nettuno engine, only in other states. The Modena will be the base car, with 483 horsepower, an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. Transmission and all-wheel drive. Switching to Trofeo-style gives you 542 horsepower but the same transmission. According to Maserati, Modena reaches 62 mph in 3. 9 seconds and has a top speed of 188 mph. While the Trophy does the mismo. de 0 to one hundred km / h in 3. 5 seconds and sees its most sensible speed increase to 199 km / h.
However, unlike other Maserati styles, the Trofeo is not the maximum capacity version. Instead, that honor goes to GranTurismo Folgore, the first electric Maserati. The Folgore style has 3 electric motors, one on the front axle and two at the rear. , giving it a total of 749 horsepower. Having two electric motors on the rear axle, one for each rear wheel, provides real-time torque vectoring without the need for a limited-slip rear differential. And hooligans rejoice: Maserati will allow you to turn off the front engine, turning it into a rear-wheel drive electric machine. Naturally, with much more power, the Folgore is the fastest GranTurismo variant and reaches 62 mph in 2. 7 seconds and reaches a sensitive top speed of 319 km/h.
An internal T-shaped battery with a capacity of 83 kilowatt hours provides electrical power for those three motors. (62 miles) in just five minutes. Maserati also claims that the Folgore is lower than any other electric vehicle on the market, so I expect it to play as well as it accelerates.
One of the most attractive things about Folgore is its noise. Many automakers give their electric cars an artificial acceleration noise, often with a sci-fi feel, to make quiet functionality more exciting in a different way. Porsche introduced it, with the Taycan noises of spaceships, and BMW recently made it better known by hiring Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight) to compose a sci-fi soundtrack for its electric vehicles. But Maserati is doing something quite attractive. It takes the herbal groan of the Folgore’s electric motors and combines it with the artificial noise fostered through its old-school V8s to create a completely false but still connected sound with the real sound of the car, which can be cured. If automakers are going to produce artificial sounds, at least be creative, right?
Oddly enough, Maserati didn’t show off the interior of the new GranTurismo, but it’s pretty well equipped, as you’d expect from a six-figure GT car. Display” for your infotainment needs, while the driving force has a group of configurable 12. 2-inch virtual indicators with various other modes. Maserati’s virtual assistance can be awakened with “Hey Maserati”, which can recognize voice commands for navigation, weather and multimedia s. A. The virtual clock replaces the iconic analog clock of the old Maserati (little) and also gets a virtual mirror (great). You also get wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Baidu CarLife.
Maserati hasn’t provided any pricing or release date, but there are reasons to be excited. I admit that I am a suction cup for Maserati, even the bad guys. Maybe it’s because I’m Italian and I can’t resist. The reason is that I keep my hands folded because the new GranTurismo is smart and I’m excited about a grand touring electric car with a classic Maserati look and exclusive soundtrack.
